one. The cost was $35-40, I think.

A single epipen will buy you a little time. But I would not want to
rely on one epipen. What happens if that one gets broken? Lost? Nut
allergies can be very severe and since the food remains in the GI tract
a single dose might not be enough to get the scout to a medical
facility. I'd be wanting multiple 1ml ampules divided between two
people's packs and having at least two people trained how and when to
administer the drug.

My first exposure to nut allergies was in a fraternity brother in
college. He took a small taste of the center of a cheese ball that had
been rolled in nuts to coat the surface. Later that night his wife took
him to the ER and sat in the waiting room giving epinephrine until they
thought he was past the allergic reaction. They had done that before -
allowed them to be near medical care but not creating huge medical
bills. Soon after they returned home that night the allergic reaction
exacerbated and she was not able to control it.

Be absolutely certain that everyone in the crew understands how serious
nut allergies can be. Most people do not understand.
