Mark L, you should be proud as you did 3 of those (Trail Peak, Black
Mountain & Tooth of Time) during our recent Autumn Adventure.
#########
We did these in consecutive days.
Trail Peak, Black Mountain then the Tooth.
Trail Peak was not bad at all. Set me up for some major overconfidence the
next day.
Black Mountain was one of the toughest challenges I have ever had. I do not
want to say the toughest but cannot remember what takes it's place. I think
the big issue was the Snow and Ice on the trail/mountain for the last 500
feet or so. I did not hike down. I aimed for the next tree and did a
slide\fall thing that worked out fine as long but if I missed I don't think
I would be writing this<grin>.
The tooth was much harder than Trail Peak but nowhere near as difficult as
Black Mountain. Of course, getting to the top of the tooth was a real
treat in itself. Knowing that this was the last and from here we were going
home added a bit of specialness in itself.
For the Tooth hike I would add that the Stockade trail was way way more
difficulty than the Ridge trail. We went up the ridge trail and back down
the Stockade. I think if we had come up the stockade the tooth would have
made Black mountain look like a climb to the tallest peak in Iowa. (having
just returned from Iowa I have decided to work with OJ to find out who stole
their mountains and get them returned)
