Steve Noted:
On my first trek, our last day was Urraca to Base Camp. Looking at the map
we saw a shortcut. It went exactly where we wanted to go. Yes, it looked
hard, but how hard could it really be???? It was called Stockade Trail. We
were on hands and knees. (Wished we had a belayer.) Had to take our packs
off to cross downed trees. No doubt, the hardest trail I've ever done at
Philmont.

By the week of October 7th most of the the down trees on the Stockade trail
were cleared. We took this shortcut to get down from the Tooth and I agree
that if we had come up that trial and tried to get to the Tooth it would
have been a much longer day than Black Mountain.

The hard part of this was that there was no good way to get a picture that
shows just how steep the descent was.

Our ranger told us that they do not use this trail much anymore and strongly
prefer the Ridge trail.
