One of our veteran Philmont adult campers (PTC, two
treks, a cavalcade, a kanik adventure and several autumn adventures) sent
this to me. This is probably the first time he is happy he isn't at
Philmont right now.

Several years ago when returning to SE Texas from an Elk hunt in Gunnison,
CO, I drove through Taos, then Cimarron canyon and through the town Cimarron
on my way home.
 
Things were fine until we crossed the continental divide and then we hit it,
snow and cold.
 
I can promise you that driving for hour after hour in conditions like shown
on the picture above is quite a challenge for this southern boy.  Looking
back it was one of the most memorable trips I've ever been on.  The neatest
thing is the starburst pattern the droplets of water made while spinning off
the front hubs of my 86 Suburban 4X4.  I only wish I had a picture.
 
That's the kind of weather you are supposed to "throw another log on the
fire".
