I just got word that I am going to be a Ranger this summer. What, in your opinion makes a good Ranger and what advice would you give to someone going out as Ranger staff?

Love the e-mail address!
You know this, so the advice is to always remember it - a crew is youth led. Your primary contact is the Crew Leader. You will likely have Advisors who have not read (or ignored) that memo, and you wil need to diplomatically deal with them.
And to echo Dr. Bob, learn FROM the crew as much as you can while you are instructing them how to do things the Philmont way, and to realize what may work within the Philmont way and what won't
I envy you - have a great summer!
