[Philmont]: Troop vs. Venture Crew distinction for 2003 reservations

From: Rich Wenneker (Rich@WennekerUSA.com)
Date: Sat Oct 27 2001 - 18:55:04 CDT

I called today on behalf of Venture Crew 28, taking until 11:40 CDT to get
through. When the reservation taker tried to enter the data, the first
question was the unit number, but not the type of unit. She ran into a
problem, and asked if we had an existing reservation for 2002. My reply was
that Troop 28 has a reservation, not Venture Crew 28. She said she couldn't
take my reservation for unit 28. I appealed and talked to a supervisor who
said they would take my reservation on paper, time stamp it, and submit it
to Philmont.

I was surprised to know the type of unit wasn't considered since it was on
the reservation worksheet provided by Philmont. In my case Troop 28 and
Venture Crew 28 are related, but the units are separate, having different
chartering organizations. Can you imagine the frustration a unit would have
if they were not in any way related to the 2002 unit? In our case, we will
be so far down the waiting list that it doesn't matter. But what if we had
got in at 10:05?

Has anyone else had this experience?
