RE: [Philmont]: A survey

Besides individual Units going to Philmont which may have their own
policies, Sam Houston Area Council sends 3 Council contingents each summer
(we've been upgraded to 4 in 2004!) with roughly 4 crews per bus. That's
about 48 people and as memory serves me the Council contingent leader on
each bus is subsidized as well as the lead advisor for each crew. I want to
say it used to be about a 20-30% cut for the lead advisor. On occasion when
a crew faltered and was short the required leadership because of medical
reasons, etc. special considerations were made for anyone who was able to
jump into the slot at the last minute.

We also have a generous scholarship program for those in need. We are in the
process of trying to put together a wait list of names for when we end up
with crews who have members drop out prior to the summer season. The main
problem is that they need to be in shape to make the trek at the last minute
and have a schedule that allows for a sudden vacation!
