RE: [Philmont]: A survey

I believe that the original request was "Are the trip expenses for the
Philmont contingent leaders of your Council subsidized or paid for" The
council contingent leader is also known as the "Tour Director" as defined in
the Treks book page 5. The tour director is encouraged to be on a crew but
in an emergency, may be shifted to another crew or may be called back to
base camp to resolve any difficulties.

If a council sent 126 hikers to Philmont of which just ONE was the "Tour
Director" that acts as the liason between Philmont and the Council, should
the Tour Director have any expenses defrayed?

Regarding regular advisors, my opinion is that they should pay because they
will be on the trail and they have (or should have) a vote on the trek that
the crew is on (I realize that this probably should be a separate thread).

Regarding the Tour Director, it is my opinion that they should pay something
but as to how much, it is tough to say.

Thanks for letting me share!!

ps: Cooper and I will be updating the "unoffical" Philmont Advisor's Guide
this weekend!!

Dear Phil-friends,

Daniel Webster Council in NH seems to be consistent with the rest of
those posting responses. Council Advisors pay a full fair share for their
place on the trip. The only way to lower the Advisor's fees would be to
raise
the amount charged to the boys. That isn't something that most of our
Advisors (most of whom are also parents of young people going on that
contingent trip) want to have happen.

A Scout is Thrifty. He pays his fair share and looks for ways to keep

costs down for the greater good.
