Same here as you David, interesting discussion from around the country, - I wonder what else is this message board for? Course, one may pick and choose what they read. Besides, the board has been quite slow lately.

Here in Capital Area Council, Austin, Texas, I've not heard of any subsidized or paid trips to Philmont for adult advisors. It's the same with any summer camp that one may attend. In my mind, adults that participate at Philmont do so for the love of Scouting, which also includes enjoying the splendor of Philmont.

Our troop has a very active parent participation so there are a number that will go trekking with our boys about anywhere they set their minds and wallets to. It's for a good cause. Good investment for the future.

We've had some good luck with fundraising at times that it would not only pay for the boy's summer camp/Philmont but also for transportation to and from the out of state locations.

I have found this discussion very interesting. Our council is dealing with this issue for 2003 and we are very interested in how others are dealing with this. We have adults that do not have the means the same as some of the boys. Any guidance is certainly welcome.

alan, quite wisely, asked for a response to his survey directly and off the list. he provided his email address. thank you, alan. for all those who have yet to respond, please follow alan's direction. my council, and i doubt any other council, is going to change its policy as a result of the survey, so i don't need to know what your council is doing in this regard. jackson morris
