We have used the Kelty Vortex 2 with great success (2 Philmont trip, and multiple 3 day trips). We made an additional bag so that the boys could split the tent to share weight. Dislikes are price of new tents. We purchased 2nds from www.outdooroutlet.com for $99 and have been happy with the tents. The other complaint would be that they have changed the styles several times I assume to improve air movement in cold weather to prevent condensation build up. If you can get one with bathtub floors and window screens that are capable of zipping closed or open , I would recommend these over the other designs. Pros- light wt, 2 doors with vestibule on each side.
Stoves- I have used about every type and found them all excellent if you get the better built brands (MSR, Apex, etc). It just boils down to personal preference. I don't care for the butane/blends personally while others swear by them.
Sincerely,
Tim Willingham
