In general, if the camp has only a small bear-proof trash bin, or if
they are far enough off the beaten path that supply trucks are seldom
seen, then the staff will demand tightly compacted trash. This is a
bear safety issue, not hazing - though certainly some staffers are
overly aggressive about it, especially with crews that have obviously
made no effort whatsoever.
