I pretty much agree with Chris's assesment except the order he placed the
objectives for the pre Philmont exercises.
1. build the team. Most important factor to having an enjoyable trip.
2. conditioning You gotta toughen up all the feet and learn how to take
care of them.
3. breaking in equipment You gotta learn how to use and care for it all
including the boots.
4. understanding what is needed On the trail no one needs to carry
excess equipment, weight, or stuff they won't use.
