I agree with the suggestion of book subjects leaning more toward outdoors,
history, and of course good ol' Edward Abbey.
I worked at Fish this summer and while it was great to receive the box of
books, most weren't really our cup of tea. Plus, those of us who were big
readers had brought out a huge stash of our own books to last the summer.
We did give a few from the box to advisors and I think at least one sick
camper who spent a lot of time in our kitchen not feeling well. When it
really gets down to it though, with our busy days, giving out/trading books
was just one more thing to do and the last thing on our minds.
One thing I'd suggest is giving the books to the Staff Lounge. There are a
few shelves of books there for the staff to read. When I was Asstistant
Manager there in 2001, we received boxes and boxes of books from somewhere,
but they were either obscure science fiction or really bad harlequin
romances!! It'd be great to get a better collection that staff could take
out and read, I know I'd use it. Plus, it'd be better for the books
storage-wise.
That's just my 2-cents on a great idea.
Elizabeth
