Our troop does one fundraiser each year that benefits the troop. This money
is used for camping equipment and
such. The remaining fundraising opportunities are provided to the scouts
for their own accounts.
We participate in the council sponsored opportunities and then file our
applications and do several others ourselves.
Net result is that if a scout wants to participate in an activity such as
Philmont, there are ample opportunities
for him to have the funding in his "scout account". The troop treasurer
keeps a running balance on each scout
so they can follow their balances.
The crew has the luxury in that we share the same adult treasurer. So our
crew works events along with the
troop to supplement their accounts as well.
Hey with a little work my wife was pleased that I wrote relatively small
checks for our treks in 1997 and
2000.
