I, as well, can't resist:

The uniform is not the problem. The problem in scouting is that scouts
are allowing themselves to be told at every possible opportunity that
scouting is not cool and that their uniforms make them dweebs. I
graduated the program just about a year ago and can tell you, I got it
all the time. I'm sure you have your own horror stories to share.

But, our uniform is a very strong part of the program and is still
supported whole-heartedly around the movement in the US. I think it
would be shame to say that we should go to something like the UK
Association has - a polo shirt and neckerchief.

If you want to get scouts to wear the uniform, be uncompromising and
make sure the uniform is WORN CORRECTLY - a good uniform looks sharp and
professional. A bad one with patches in the wrong places and sloppily
worn will look shoddy. Everyone wears the uniform, and everyone
understands that anyone who judges them simply because they're a scout
is not cool but in fact an idiot and insecure.

To the crew leader who asks:
> I am a crew leader traveling with 2 other council contingents this summer.

The answer is, a full Class A, correctly and proudly worn. Scouting
needs all the good PR it can get and traveling in uniform is a great way
to positively interact with people in the community.
