[Philmont]: Re: NTier #1151

May I add my two cents worth:

I have been to Maine High Adventure Base (1990, last year run by
National), Florida Sea Base (1996, Coral Reef), Philmont (1998, 711-P5
Trek #23), OKPIK (twice in Maine), two National jamborees (next year's
too) and the last three NOAC's. Notice, I have not been to Northern
Tier.

I have no regrets attending these advents and was fortunate to go to
Philmont thanks to a friend whose crew had an open spot. I would like
to attend Northern Tier but most people here in New England would prefer
to go to Philmont or Seabase. Part of the situation is the promotion of
these facilities and it is my understanding the lack of promotion &
attendance was the downfall that resulted to the closure of Maine
National High Adventure after the 1990 season. BTW: the same program
is now offerred by the local Scout Council and has been for over a
decade.

Each High Adventure event offers something different. At Seabase, our
crew has a Scout with disabilities but still came. I vividly remember
him swimming off the tow rope off the boat each afternoon and I did not
mind playing lifeguard for him. Maine offerred Moose and Bald Eagles;
Philmont had Bears; NOAC the great shows! I was pleased to attend each
facility and the order in which I did; each offered a different
challange.

Yes, I have heard the loons here on the lakes of New Hampshire but it
would be different to hear them in Minnesota. I hope I get the chance.
