Re: [Philmont]: wet tents

We had ALOT of rain this past 808-N, at least compared to 2K2. We laid our tents out at meal breaks on the trail, and generally dried them completely in about 20 minutes. After the day of the big flood @ Upper Dean Cow, soggy boots were a bigger problem.

We use Troop tents that have separate rain flies. On those occasions
where we had to pack up wet, we keep the wet fly separate from the tent
itself (usually the tent is still fairly dry, even if the fly is
soaked). We also always took advantage of program or meal stops to hang
wet tarps and tents up (even a moderately drier fly, tarp, or tent
weighs significantly less than a soaked one). We have even opened up
and loosely "bundled" tent parts on top of packs to help dry them out
while hiking.

Obviously none of these will work if you have perpetual rains, as some
folks did this past summer. But if you have occasional rain, you can
work around it some.
