Another option is to consider a trek (#2,4,5,26) that camps at Tooth Ridge
Camp. It is a very short side hike from TR Camp to the base of the tooth.
In 2002 our crew was on trek 26. We got into TR Camp for lunch and relaxed
most of the afternoon. The scouts also enjoyed exploring the rock
formations around the camp and using the famous P-B with the great view.
After a brief and light late-afternoon rain, we ate dinner and did a fairly
leisure hike up the tooth. Leisure in the sense of not being pressed for
time and the temps being cooler. We spent a lot of time at the top and
watched the shadows lengthen across the plains as the sun dropped. The next
morning we were up and into base camp before 9:00, avoiding the exposed
ridge in the heat of the afternoon. There were no lines anywhere when we
arrived in base camp (equipment return, showers, etc.) We had a lot of time
to relax, hit Simple Simons and explore Cimarron.
I highly recommend Al Thomson's spreadsheet; a wealth of info in one place.
