Half of my crew took their tents and the others used the Philmont tents. Those using the Philmont tents didn't have any real complaints other than 1 of 'em leaked a little. Those of us who brought our own had virtually the same reason; familiarity with the weight as well as the set up. Mine was a Northface "Pebble" which weighed just a bit under 5 pounds, including poles, aluminum stakes. Easy for 1 man to set up and take down. By using it during the shake downs, I knew it didn't leak, which was good since we had rain 9 of the 10 days. Personal choice. I didn't see many advantages one way or the other, but as for me, just wanted my own tent.
