> Jacob was having second thoughts.
Jacob wasn't having second thoughts. Jacob is a jerk who will probably
never learn. He will be the grown man standing in front of his house in
2 feet of water complaining that the government is not moving fast
enough or doing enough to help him. He will be the one who decides that
he will sit it out because "they've told us to evacuate before and it
never came to anything". He will be the one who complains that the Fire
department or Rescue squad doesn't respond quick enough when he calls
them. He is a "taker", not a "giver". I know this because I see Jacob
almost every week. He is the one who complains about us leaving a Fire
Truck or an Ambulance blocking his driveway while we try to help his
neighbor (but he's in a hurry to go out and buy his lottery tickets
before the drawing). Yes, Jacob is being taught values by his family
that will carry him thorough the rest of his life.
Thank God for Scouting, and thank you for reminding me why I put up
with all the nonsense that is a necessary part of being a Scoutmaster. I
was just going through a 'crisis of faith', but thanks to your note, I
am better now. I had almost forgotten that I am in this for 'My Boys',
and NOTHING else matters.
Yours In Scouting,
Tom
