My $0.02 worth: The lexan bowls are also wide and fairly shallow, so you can, um, orally clean them fairly effectively. No corners makes that even easier. The glad bowls have corners and edges that may make that process more difficult.

I'm with Greg on this one. The lexan bowls are indestructible, lightweight and work great. Something else to consider is how stackable the bowls are. It works real well to have one person carry all the crew bowls in his or her pack. That way, they're always in one place and, because they stack so nicely, take up very little space in the pack.

  Kelly,

You may want to consider a Lexan bowl, sold for around $2.00 at Sports Authority, Target, etc., from the sporting goods/camping section. The bowl, along with a Lexan spoon, is actually all you will need at Philmont. Not only are they virtually unbreakable, but they provide enough support while eating and some protection from the heat of the food (when you do eat something hot).

I have a couple of the Glad Ware type bowls for lunch at work. Personally I wouldn't use them at Philmont because they are pretty flimsy, bend easily, and offer no protection at all from the hot contents. Remember, you will be balancing your food on your lap while perched on a log!

Has anyone had any experiance with using the new light weight micorwaveable, dishwasher safe, freezer containers that are now in the supermarkets, for personal bowls/plates for the trail. One brand is called "Glad Ware". They are very light, but do they hold up in the packs?

  thanks
