One solution to the hot-food issue might be to nest two of the bowls
with one lid. The incremental weight is negligable and the double wall
keeps hot/cold food away from your body and hands. A side benefit is
that if one bowl springs a leak, you have a spare. I have not tried
this; only anecdotal comments.
FWIW I have used one of the disposable micro-meal bowls for microwave
oatbran 4 - 5 times a week for over a year (same bowl) with no problems,
but it is not stuffed in a pack each day.

Personally I wouldn't use them at Philmont because they

One brand is called "Glad Ware". They are very >> light, but do they
hold up in the packs?
