This is true only if Philmont can keep adequate staff at all camps, and
at this point they obviously cannot, at least not using the current
staffing protocols. What might be able to work is a sharply limited
number of treks from August 15th through August 31st that hit a specific
dozen camps, then making sure that those camps were fully staffed (from
the start of the season) with people who are committed to staying til
September 1st. And then putting something like 4 Crews a day on each of
the few treks that would hit those specific camps. I could see
something like this working, but it would be quite an organizational and
logistical challenge. But let's say you got 12 Crews a day for an
additional 10 days. And that each one had an average of 10
participants. Well, that's another 1,000 or so Scouts each season.
Worth it? To the participants, sure. To the Ranch admin folks that
would have to administer it, not so sure about that....
