Cimarron's police force is funded by the tickets they
write.--

Years ago, actually probably eons ago, my two brothers and my dad all got radar detectors. I used to chide them with "if you drive under the speed limit, you don't need one" and we'd all get a big laugh.
Then I got my first really big (over $100.00 ticket) and I got a radar detector.
The thing wa brand new and we took a summer vacation trip to the western slope of Colorado. Now that's about 1,600 miles one way. The radar detector never so much as beeped all the way there, but when we got ther boy howdy.
We took the back roads you might say and when we approached every little town in Colorado that thing would let us know we were approaching the city limits. And there he would be, the one man welcoming committee was there waiting for you.
After a while when the detector started beeping our oldest daughter, about 13 at the
time, would tell her little sister "Allison, we are cominginto another town, let's look for the policeman" and there he would be. It became a good traveling game for them.
Central Texas has it's fair share of Barny's also, but the most famous is Martindale which is SE of San Marcos, a destination for us whitewater kayakers. According to legend, I possess the only written warning ever issued by them as they mostly issue real tickets. My warning if for doing 41 in a 40 mile zone. He told me I was lucky because he issues tickets at 2 MPH over the limit.
Now, being a former police officer, fully trained in radar useage, that officer is simply full of it if he thinks his radar unit or speedometer is capable of 2MPH accuracy in the 40 MPH range.
However, he owns the pen and ticket book and the city judge owns your walley and as suggested previously, their paycheck depends on sufficient funds being available in the city coffers. Translation---you get a ticket.
And that is the way it is in 50 states that I know of and I'm sure it's worse in foreign countries.
