ROFL Dan... I've been up there once and I thought there seemed to be a shortage of oxygen too. Funny thing though... there didn't seem to be much on the way up, but once we got to the top, it seemed to be more prevalent, mostly after about 5 minutes. :-)
That global warming thing sure messes things up!

There was also a lot more oxygen on Mt. Phillips in 1970 than there was in 2002. I think it must have to do with global warming.

No, no, no........we don't "claim" what isn't rightfully ours, especially to the North. That's yankee territory. What we do is recite history. I mean we can't help it that the slaughters at Goliad and San Antonio de Valero (The Alamo) resulted in how should we say it "refined" techniques of modern warfare to whip a superior force at San Jacinto. That's history, no bragging there.

Blame it on the Pope shall we. Shame, shame, sheme. All the Popes have ever wanted was peace.........................and Gold!
<<to my Texan friends out there, remember, if the largest state were divided in two, Texas would drop from second to third!>>
That's no problem, best has nothing to do with size even though they sing in that song "size matters". We would be willing to divide up if someone wanted another state. Just remember, Texas is the only state out of 50 that retains the right to divide itself into additional states. Since we retain that right, I think that shows how benevolent our hearts are.
<<AND, we won't mention what a Philmont staffer told us during a campfire back in '76 about Aggies, Native Americans and buffalo <blush>>>
Somehow you are confusing Aggies with Texans. They are not the same thing, so don't go insulting the Aggies. Aggies are Aggies, that's all there is to it.
And for just a little more history, I have a photograph of three Aggies standing atop Clear Creek Mountain holding a Texas flag in August of 1959. Clear Creek Mountain is what Mt. Phillips was called before they decided to call it Mt. Phillips. Clear Creek was 11,711 feet tall. Some resources say the Mt. Phillips is taller today and some still list it at 11, 711.
One thing for sure is that it felt a lot taller on 2002 than it did in 1959.
