If I may add my two cents worth....
Any contract for any trip that is used MUST BE ADHERED by the Crew,
member(s), and parents.
Here is my example:
At the 2001 National Jamboree, a Scout was sent home on the arriving day
when the
Troops arrived at Fort AP Hill. I was on SubCamp staff and eagerly
awaited the
arrival of our Council's two troops. I was a District Executive and
Staff Adviser
at the time.
Needless to say, a Scout had already made his dissatisfaction known to
all on the trip
down from central Massachusetts. As the leaders disembarked the bus, I
something was
wrong.
After consulting with the Troop leaders, the Scoutmaster (Our Council
President and local SM at the time) and I decided in the best interest
of all, the Scout would be
sent home. The Subcamp staff provided assistance, parents were called,
and later that day arrived at Subcamp 5.
They pleaded with our Troop leaders who stood their ground. In this
case, "The Needs of
the many or the few OUTWEIGHED the needs of the one" (ST II-TWOK).
Overall, these activities are not Summer Camp where parents or a Unit
leader can drive a couple hours to resolve such issues.
Enough said....
