My reading of the policy seems to indicate a desire for WFA but no
requirement for '07.

Word

  Howdy folks,

Now that it’s official that we don’t need WFA for ’07, does anyone have a
sense of whether Philmont will accept WFA certification for ’07, or will
they insist on a “standard” first aid certification (i.e., refuse to
recognize the WFA cert).

I have taken both. WFA from NOLS was an intense two-day course that
really helped prepare me for a wide range of emergencies. (I did need to
travel 200 miles to the closest location that offered it, so I understand
why Philmont is not requiring it yet.)

On the other hand, the standard first aid course from the local Red Cross
is a little over ½ day and falls substantially short of a good BSA
first-class rank first aid course. I’m just wondering whether I must take
the red cross course again.

  Thanks for your insights,

  Steve Mountainspring
