Roy, your post is great.

 I look at "teaching the tricks of the trade"
also in this way. The more you teach different ways to get something
worthwhile done the better you help a boy "Be Prepared". You - really
- help a boy if he carries this understanding - that there is more
than one way to get something worthwhile done - throughout his life.

So to me it isn't necessarily about teaching the easiest way but that
there are choices. Some choices work better than others.

That's part of why cooking is a great part of the program. There are
an enormous number of ways to cook and many great cooking heritages to
enjoy. Many lead to a great, tasty and flavorful result.
