[Philmont] Cameras and notepads.

I have been to Philmont five times as an adult, never as a Boy Scout. During the first four trips I took a lot of pictures with my 35mm camera, probably double of all the pictures the boys took combined. When we got back from the trip I had them developed and the boys were able to have copies made of the pictures I took.

During my last trip, in 2004, I and one other adult adviser took along digital cameras. The boys brought along one or two disposable cameras each. I took hundreds of photos, and the other adult took even more then I did. A couple weeks after we returned home we had a reunion at which everyone brought their photos along, and a cd of their photos. I then put all the photos into my computer and made copies of everyone's cd's for each person who wanted copies, which everyone did. Then each person could print copies of whatever photos they wanted.

I also took it one step further. I made slide shows of each person's photos and put them on dvd's. That set of dvd's was very popular with the Scouts and their parents.

I have also keep a journal on a few of the trips. Two of them have been posted on our troop's website. I do not recall any of the boys keeping notes or journals. If they did they never let me read them. If is nice to go back and reread the journals and look at the photos. It brings back a lot of memories.
