After a little research, and from our shakedown hike last weekend, I believe
the following:
== Dinner == (7 liters of water needed + 1 gal for drinkmaster + wash
water)
Most freeze dried food assumes 10oz serving size which is about 1.5 cup.
Most scouts need 16oz of food to feel full. (1.5 servings)
A full 12-person crew hydrating 12 servings of Mountain House at one time (5
qts) will need a 6-qt pot minimum to hold all the food.
Two 4-qt pots would also work. 3 liters of water are needed to hydrate 12
servings.
6 packages of Raman Noodles with give the other 6 oz of main course, which
needs a little over 2 liters of water.
We tried a 0.5 serving of dessert (Mountain House Cobbler), but was not
enough. Suggest .75 serving. (lttle over 1 liter of water)
We added a 1/2 peice of flat bread.
== Lunch == 1-gal water for drinkmaster
For lunch an 18-oz jar of Peanut Butter was to give 15 servings. Again,
need more like 1.5 servings. We also had a 12oz honey and two flat breads
per person.
Each had a granola bar.
= Breakfast = 3 liters oatmeal + 1 gal drinkmaster + wash water (3
liters??) and coffee water. (assuming cup of water per person)
For breakfast, one envelope of instant oatmeal is not enough, plan two per
person next time. We also gave one cereal bar per person.
== Snack ==
We found a 10:00am snack highly beneficial to maintaining pace. One Clif
bar per person was perfect. (Granola was too dry)
