If you are in Witchita Mountains, be sure to be on the look out for the wild buffalo herd that roams the area. Very cool, but don't get out of your car! Also, the fishing is pretty good, just about anytime of the year.
By the way, the Wichita Mountains used to be as tall as the Rockies (many eons ago). I believe it had something to do with all the hot air coming up from the south, causing erosion. (Just kidding)

Marc, John,
They don't meet MY definition of "mountain" but it looks like the federal government thinks the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge is the correct name for this rugged Oklahoma terrain:
wichitamountains.fws.gov/
And on the east side of the state, the Ouachita Mountains:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouachita_Mountains
They ain't the Sierras, they ain't the Wind Rivers, and they sure as heck ain't the Rockies. But I refuse to say anything negative about our neighbors to the north. Let them dream of mountains. Neither
By the way, my wife and I leave tomorrow for Philmont. There's a conference at the PTC of Presbyterian Scouters. It's not Autumn Adventure, but it ought to be real quiet.
