This is a cross post to both Scouts-L and Philmont-L.
Scouters often ask what scoutmaster assignments have been used to replace
positions of responsibility for advancement. I am going to allow our Crew
Chief for our troop's 2003 Philmont Trek to serve as a scoutmaster
assignment. He has been elected by the crew. Here is a description of the
duties:
-Assign work teams for various tasks for the trek
-Schedule and lead practice treks
-Be responsible for having the crew t-shirt designed and printed
-Be responsible for taking the required equipment
-Inspect participant packs before leaving for Philmont
-Lead the crew while at Philmont, and while traveling to and from Philmont
-Properly document (in whatever form he chooses) the experience
He will actually have a 15 month tenure (including the documentation period
after the trek is over), so he may get two ranks out of the assignment.
