I am glad I took:
Trekking Poles,
Lightweight stool with a back, a constant battle to get it from the scouts and other advisors. If you've had chiggers, you'd agree.
Coleman Peak1 Stoves, we took an MSR as our backup and it was a waste and a bother.
LED headlamp
A journal.
Gutter nail stakes
The bottom of a milk jug as a basin. (But use a water jug instead so it's not a smellable.)
Itinerary maps printed from the CD.
A beach ball.
We did not need,
Turkey Bags, Ranger Zach convinced us to use Philmont method.
GPS, unnecessary toy except to confirm altitude.
Gore-Tex rain pants, convertible zip-offs were enough (We had no rain in August.)
Any extra food, Philmont gave out plenty this year.
Wish I had.
My digital camera, which was stolen on the way out. The disposables are not good enough. Seeing the pictures while at Philmont would have been fun and helpful.
I would have enjoyed my light weight binoculars instead of the GPS.
One Leatherman for the crew. We all left that for someone else to bring.
The chance to go again.
Tony
