I don't agree about GPS. Did you have a unit with mapping display? I
took my Garmin III+ , had the topo's loaded, and thought it was great
fun to have (not to mention quite usefull on a few occasions...)
On the other hand, I hardly used my lightweight binoculars, it always
seemed too hazy to see long distances.
Definitely wouldn't go without Trekking poles, they were only a little
less necessary than food and water (if your over 40 anyway :-)
