My son, Jeffrey, was one of the Head Rocks at Cimarroncito this summer. (He was supposed to be a Dean Cow but that camp never opened.) If you climbed there, I hope he showed you a good time. He and many of his friends were hired for the Fire Rehabilitation Crew to work in the fire damaged area from September through Thanksgiving. They started in early September getting instruction and working at base camp. Philmont has been waiting for some government funding to help pay for the recovery effort. Jeffrey reports:
"Today, for the first time this fall, the Fire Rehabilitation Crew did the work we are being paid for. After failing to get our Suburbans (each loaded with 9 workers and daypacks and tools for each) up three different muddy backcountry
roads, we finally found a section of burned forest we could work on. We only had 4 chainsaws for all 26 of us, but each crew of 8 still managed to get a half-dozen terraces built in just an hour. It felt really good to be WORKING at last. My pants are covered in soot, as are my hands, arms, and face. It was great."
