The Ranger assigned to your son's trek will know the water situation and
will help influence the choice of where to go and not to go based on
water supplies.. We were there Sept 7-14. Camp water systems are
generally shut down but may be restarted if a group is there. Stream
flow was still minimal even though they "had more rain during the three
middle days of our trek than they have had in 3 years" and flow from
springs was largely non-existant. Philmont brough in water to our base
camp for us. They've had some snow now but the overall situation
probably has not changed a lot.
