Our trek, 15, took us primarily through the Valle Vidal in July....wide
open valleys surruonded by walls of rock and mountain in the distance.
Utterly devoid of people and airplanes overhead (even in the summer).
Lots of cows and cow herds grazing and lots of "burnt woods" to hike
through. Since our trek did not take us south into the more "popular"
parts of Philmont, I can make no comparsions. I still remain in awe of
the remoteness of the country....(Water is availabe at reasonable
intervals with a combination of solar and wind powered pumps. Little
to no wildlife except for the cows and the few staffers we encountered.
