Donnie,

We did Trek 9 with a mere 3 days in the Valle. We loved it. I wish we
had done more gone all the way to Whiteman Vega. We stayed at Rich
Cabins which is not all that remote, but very enjoyable. We all got into
homesteading watering and weeding the garden, feeding the livestock,
catching the chickens. We had bushwhacked through a burned out area to
get there from Dan Beard short hike, but really depressing with no
greenery or birds. The next day we went into Greenwood Canyon and it got
greener and greener full of quaking aspens and Colorado spruce. We
followed a road most of the way. There are several areas suitable for
camping along the road. We stopped at the second one and I think there
were several more further up. Ours was fairly level for tents, had a
stream running through it with a nice log bridge to get back and forth
and some good trees for bear bag hanging. Our afternoon activity was
relaxing and panning for gold with a Frisbee later we learned that all
our gold was mica. The next day we hiked further up the road and found
an old abandoned mine. We left the road and headed through the woods for
Copper Park. Lots of downed, dead trees with sharp branches made for
lots of scraped legs. We ended up on an old mining road with 3 ft.
spruces growing in the middle of it obviously not driven on for some
time. Those three days were the best hiking we did not too easy
either. We had to get all our water out of streams. I highly recommend
the Valle. Tell Ted Turner we said hello.

Does anyone have any experence hiking in the Valle Vidal. For our
Autumn Adventure we were considering this area. We have even considered
going off Philmont on a 22 mile trip to Beattys Lake just north of the
Phlmont boundry.
