In 2001 no one in our crew had a nosebleed. In 2003 if was an epidemic. 6
or 7 of our 11 crew members got nosebleeds at one time or another. Most
just one time. I attributed the difference to the dry weather we
experienced in 2003 as the only rain we got was on our last full day on the
trail. The trails were extremely dusty.
When one crew member had a nosebleed during fly tying at Fish Camp we
mentioned to the staffer teaching the session that many of our crew had
experienced nosebleeds. He offered the universal cure for all ailments at
Philmont - drink more water.
