There are basically two things you hope you don't need on wilderness and
semi-wilderness treks such as Philmont: Your first aid kit and your
possibles kit. (Well, maybe your raingear too.) But you still have to
bring them, and they still have to be properly stocked. Even if most
Crews hardly use anything out of their first aid kits beyond blister
care and Vitamin I, this is no place to go minimalist. A proper first
aid kit is basic Health and Safety. "You Never Know". There are far
better (and less critical) places to cut weight.
