Our troop used Alps Mystique 2 tents in '03 which worked very well and
we expect to use them again in '05. However, as others have said, have
them spend the money on a good pack and rain gear before you have
individuals buying tents rather than using Phil Tents.
Also, get them to sign up for all the "sale" email lists and be
opportunistic. For example, we were able to get my son a Marmot Precip
jacket (closeout, last year's color) for about $35 by watching for it
on sale - we've got a running list of stuff we keep an eye out for in
case it's on sale or closeout.
