Maybe it was unique to our crew, but we never really noticed any bad
taste to the Polar Pure water.

I am impressed with any boys/adults who are willing to take the
time/physical exertion to filter as much water as our crew drank out at
Philmont. Someone else has correctly pointed out the fact that we felt
TIME was the most precious resource at Philmont and it took very little
time, and much less effort, to do the Polar Pure bottle-shifting dance.
We never had any "dirty water" except at Ute Meadows when the afternoon
torrential rain churned the creek that ran past the camp into a "coffee
with cream" color. Since we had already filled our Stearn's water sacks
and had re-filled bottles of PP water "brewing", we just waited until
the next morning to refill any bottles emptied at dinner / filling
bladders for the next day's hike. By the next morning, the creek was
back to clear...and cold and VERY nice tasting. PP didn't seem to have
any effect on that, to our taste buds.

We traditionally have used filters on our backpacking treks, and will
always take at least one on any outing, we but became Polar Pure
converst when we realized the time/effort savings.

Is it too broad a generalization to say that WHERE one's trek was had a
lot to do with the availability/quality of water? We had an ample
quantity of water throughout our trek (#3) The South country seemed so
different from North and Central, as we came through it on day 10/11, we
discussed the fact that the whole water situation might be very
different then where we had been. Is water a different story down in
lower portion of the reservation?
