Yes there is and I believe it is around 70 degrees. The colder the water
the longer it takes to purify. Up at French Henry the water was around 50
degrees (or seemed that cold) and we had to set our nalgenes in the sun to
warm up the water to increase the effectiveness of the Polar Pure.

Subject: [Philmont]: Polar Pure question

Is there a temperature below which Polar Pure will not work? I know that
you use more of the solution and wait longer if the water is colder. I
think the Philmont recommended procedure is to use 2 capfuls per liter and
wait 1 hour before drinking. Does this work regardless of the temperature?

We took both Polar Pure and iodine tablets on a 3-day shakedown hike over
the summer. We were in the Porcupine Mtns along Lake Superior and it was
cool and rainy, so no opportunity to warm the water in the sun. We used the
tablets exclusively because I was concerned about the performance of the
Polar Pure in cold water.

By the way, barely noticed a difference in taste and none of the boys
complained about it either.
