I purchased a MIOX too. So far I like what I see. Did you use the test strips while at Philmont or have you become comfortable with the process and just wait the time?
My thought is that when you become comfortable with it (using the strips), you may not have need for them. What do you think?
I'm expecting to replace our filters with the MIOX.
MSR said that any rock salt would work so once you get past the cost it becomes very economical. Time and effort is no greater than Polar Pure and is certainly a lot lighter than a filter.
