Hi Harry,
Initially, I used the test strips but they were always indicating good. I guess my comfort level with the technology got high enough to skip that step. (If it's good enough for the special forces, it's good enough for me.) BTW... I still carry a filter (MSR MiniWorks) because I like *clean* water, not just safe water. I'm not an ounce-shaver and I figure that the MIOX is essentially zero weight and so I can justify both.

Thanks for the tip about the rock salt. I suspected as much.
