There's been a lot of great discussion about Polar Pure and the use of water
filters / purifiers. It's really made me think about what we're going to do
next summer when we make our first trip.
With that said, I'd like to make the board aware of a water purifier, yes,
PURIFIER, that's on the market that produces great tasting water without the
use of iodine or other chemicals. It filters all the "crunk" that other
filters filter PLUS viruses (it can't be called a purifier unless it filters
viruses), it's lightweight and packs small, attaches directly to a Nalgene
bottle, has a great pre-filter on the end of the intake hose, pumps like a
bicycle pump instead of using a lever, fills a Nalgene bottle in about 45
seconds and isn't much more expensive than any other regular filter. It's
the First Need Water Purifier by General Ecology. The First Need Purifier
was selected as best water filtration system by Backpacker and Outside
magazines.
For the record, I have no commercial interest in the company, but I do own
two of them and can attest to their quality.
Why do I bring it up? Because there's been a lot of discussion on the board
about potential viruses and how to get them out of the water we all want to
drink, and there's been no mention of the First Need being used. No
boiling, no sitting for an hour or more... drink the water immediately
after pumping.

They're available through most quality outdoor gear stores, but I'll include
the website of the company so, if you're interested, you can research them a
bit.
