Our 2003 crew pumped rather than using PP. Polar pure is not available in
California, we can't train with it, and we use our pumps all the time on our
outings. So we are quite used to being able to field strip a recalcitrant
pump and our boys are used to going down to the stream to pump. Our 97, 95,
and 93 crews all pumped as well.

Two trips to Philmont under our belt and we used MSR pumps. In most cases
our crew preferred to pump rather than use the potable water because the
taste was better. We never used the PP just carried it for just in case.
Any chemical treatment requires wait time. The "pump time" was great social
time for joke telling and swapping storys. We always filled up after
dinner and at lunch if required.
