RE: [Philmont]: 2004 Trail Menu & a turkey bag question

My suggestion would be to use the 8 qt pot as the design for the cozy.
Essentially, replicate the size and form of the pot and you have the perfect
size. To answer your question directly, yes, you can use a twisty tie on
the cooking bag, I believe they actually come with the bags since you have
to use ties when you employ the bags for their real purpose. I just twisted
the top closed and left it in the pot. The lost of heat wasn't that
significant and we found all our meals to have a satisfactory temperature
without, um, cozying up to some additional items to carry around.

As far as the 2004 menu, here is a link to a Word Doc formatted menu for
2004 I found on Google with all the nutritional info on it as well. Looks
like something the Philmont Staff put together for distribution. If you
need it in a different format, let me know and I can convert it to PDF and
forward it to you in that format.

Subject: [Philmont]: 2004 Trail Menu & a turkey bag question

Does anyone have a copy of the trail menu for 2004? I have a couple of
parents asking what their boys will be eating, and I have a 2003 menu, but I
heard that there were changes (and will likely be changes before 2005 gets
here...).

Also, for those of you who use turkey bags: Is it possible to use a twist
tie to close the bag after you have added the hot water to the dry
ingredients in the bag? I am asking this because my thought is to get rid
of the 2nd 8qt/6qt pot, and in its place make a "turkey bag cozy" similar to
anitgravitygear.com's pot cozies.

I have used anitgravitygear.com's pot cozies for about 2 years with my small
cook sets and find them indispensable now. I have purchased the Reflectix
and am trying to decide on the design of the cozy. My initial thought is to
make a cozy that will fit inside an 8qt pot, but since I haven't yet played
with the turkey bags, I don't know what to expect as far as volume/weight in
the turkey bag.

Any thoughts on the idea? Thanks!
