Mike--

Give Philmont a call at (505)376-2281. This list is great for advice, but for many things-- especially things that could keep someone off the trail-- it's best just to call the source.

Generally, it's true that the Health Lodge allows more leeway with youth than with adults. The medical staff are all people that love Philmont and want Scouts and Scouters to be able to share the experience-- if it doesn't put the campers at risk. Their bottom line will be whether they think the Scout will be safe and successful on the trail.

Subject: [Philmont]: Scouts minimum weight requirement

  Hi all,

We have a scout considering Philmont in 2005 who is 5' 7" or 5' 8" but very slender (i.e. skinny). I have read what the Philmont Planning Guide says regarding weight mins and maxs and that no scout 20 lbs over or under is allowed out.

It sounds like if you or less than 20 lbs over or under (which is our case) it is up to the Philmont medical team.

Can some of you that have been there tell me how this is generally handled? Are there hard and fast rules? etc.

  Thanks in advance,

  Mike
