Thanks for e-mail! Not sure if upgrade was to First or Business Class but
was much better than Coach - they paid for food (20,20,15,10) too. Amtrak
called me out of the blue and asked me to upgrade and it was great! It cost
me $125 - usually price is almost $300. At least when I asked when I asked
leaving Raton (station closed for season) at Albuquerque. Train to Raton
with upgrade was great, personal room, two nice big chairs, and BED - made
up out of two chairs, Amtrak picked up food tab. . Much nicer way to travel
than coach. Had to do Coach back and it was OK, but could not sleep or
shower but Cheaper! Bag was too warm and big for PTC, so I slept on it open
and used PTC blankets to cover with - worked ok. PTC was very cold at night.
Hope to buy safety bag/cover for double oversized sleeper soon. PTC took us
out to "Back Country" and it was AWESOME - beautiful! IWTGBP! You meet the
nicest Scouters in the World there! Thanks again for the email! I am alive

My recommendation would be to get a large duffel and stick it in it, any
sporting goods store will do. If it doesn't fit rolled, then fold it
instead and stuff in other stuff with it. Obviously too late for mail order
at this point, but if you can fit in a mummy bag, getting an extra long 0
degree holofill bag from someplace like alps mountaineering's
scoutdirect.com pro purchase for $45 or so would be a good option for a
smaller, less bulky bag.

I'll wave at you on the train as you go through the Fullerton station :-)
Tell us more about this coach to first class upgrade, is this something the
rest of us can take advantage of, or is it something you got that just fits
your circumstance?

Thank you! I am worried about temp change especially at night! Our high
projected here for today is 105 - too hot. Nights are still high as
Philmont's hottest. I have a big heavy double size sleeping bag - not sure
how to transport yet? Double the size of normal bag - any suggestions on how
to hand carry to PTC? To late to mail. Only used for car camping prior to
this, and not to easy to handle -- any recommendations would be greatly
appreciated. P.S. Amtrak just upgraded me from coach to first class for a
small fee so the trip there will be much more enjoyable this year! Thanks
